Stannis and Sons, The Innkeepers

Stannis Boarder is a Human Commoner of Applewood. He and his sons wield the artistic skills learned from a lifetime of performing. They run the Inn aptly named Stannis and Sons’ in Applewood, where they throw nightly parties. Of course they love every minute of it.

A typical evening in Stannis and Sons is filled with merry music, food, ale, and a healthy dose of creative story telling. Stannis and his sons Caleb (19), Carr’El (17), Colton (15), and Carson (11), each have a gift for entertainment. What the show looks like largely depends on who is working that night.

Stannis is a former member of a traveling circus. He is skilled in a long list of sleight of hand, acrobatic, and musical arts. If it is his turn to work, he can be found dangling his feet from the rafters, singing bawdy songs about life on the road.

Caleb is talented with a number of short knives. He does a handful of presentations including juggling, knife throwing, and even swallowing swords.

Carr’El is a fan of card tricks and sleight of hand. He frequently pulls coins and other objects from customer’s ears, and playing the Shell Game. Customers will take turns finding the hidden golden pentagon under the shell. He earns more money than he loses. He occasionally will pull larger pranks, like making an adventurer’s weapon disappear, or pulling a bowl of stew from a Dwarven beard.

Colton is a fan of Poetry and Music. At week’s end, he is pulling shifts reciting works of beauty for the guests. He keeps a keen ear to the ground and is likely to invent new songs and poems about current events. While they aren’t always true, he has a reputation for being caught up on current events.

Carson is the youngest and excels at what he calls extreme service. On nights when Carson is on duty, guests can expect their dinner to arrive with a flourish. He uses his small size to dodge in and out of guests. He has great tastes, and can always recommend an herb or cider to match the meal.

Roleplaying hints

1. Only two members of the family are on duty at a time. Two in the day, two at night, with one of them having the night off. The person who is off should be the one the party talks to. The others are too busy!
2. The Inn is a rowdy, but rarely violent place. All five family members will work to shut down any destructive behavior.
3. Stannis’ wife died giving birth to Carson. Caleb and Carr’El remember their elven mother, but neither they nor Stannis will talk about her. Carson and Colton don’t remember her, and can’t answer more than she died.
