Calahan Hornlight: The Recluse

Calahan is a Halfling Monk of Applewood. His drive for perfect mind and body is his entire life purpose. He is a trained Historian and Philosopher. He lives in a small home in town. He is perfectly happy to live a quiet life here.

Calahan maintains a small library of works, mostly scrolls. He keeps them safe, while pouring through their pages. He sells copies of them, and can assist in identifying various works, or researching various topics. Many folks will come and inquire about various scrolls, magical or otherwise.

Calahan has never married, and never shown any interest in having children. His family he left behind in the far south. Many have heard him talk about the Voice of the Wind, a spiritual journey he still seems to be on. He seems to hear a voice every time even the gentlest of breezes blows by, and gets distracted listening to it.

Many think because of his odd nature, and his small size, that he would be an easy target. A few unfortunate ruffians have made the mistake of trying to take advantage of his kindness, and paid the price. Garrick Newgate has woken with a number of assailants, arms tied behind their backs, sitting on his front porch.

1. He spends his time in meditation. He often misunderstands comments. He likes Halflings more than other folks.
2. He is convinced that the answers to the universe are found in texts near Applewood.
3. He left his family of wanderers in the south to find answers. He feels shame about this.

“Maybe you could do me a favor. There have been a number of attempted break ins in the last week. I think someone is after knowledge they should not have. When I go to stop them, they flee before I can identify them. Stop them, and I’ll provide an award.”
“I’ve heard of a ruins not far from here. Word is, there was a wizard that died exploring the ruins. It is booby trapped see? Well the wizard’s spellbook is still there, and he was a pretty smart fella. His name is Grey, and I have a map. Wanna go get him? I’ll get you your information.”

Relationships to other NPCs

Calahan gets along best with other short folks. Tindle is a Human, but is short, and has earned his trust. Gnomes and Halflings are greeted in a friendly manner. Tall folks he often examines and mistrusts.
